From the Capital of Europe to Swinging London

My international legal experience continues. For the past few months I have been working in Brussels, both for L&E Global and Van Olmen & Wynant and I’m learning new things every day. Working life is exciting and frenetic. In fact, the longer I stay here the more I love this city and the Brussels’ lifestyle.

Last week I had the chance to attend a major event hosted by the Belgian Institute for Company Lawyers (IJE|IBJ) : “Day of the company lawyer 2014: Innovation, source of law – law, source of innovation”. The event was very interesting and I met several in-house jurists and law firm partners, whom I had the chance to talk with about L&E Global and the current status of employment law advice in Belgium and beyond. It is surprising how this branch of law has evolved over the last few years. Although employment law remains primarily a local matter, it is important to note that it is increasingly becoming one with an international focus. Some jurists explained how important it is for them to obtain global and unified legal advice. It was really interesting discussing various points of view on this issue and learning about the legal problems that in-house jurists face.

At the same time, L&E Global’s very first Associates Weekend took place in London. Associates from all over the world spent a weekend with their colleagues. The event was a huge success and allowed attorneys from the L&E Global international practice group to hone their networking skills and learn more about working in an international environment and particularly the UK legal scene.

Only a short time remains before I return to Spain… how time flies! It feels as if I have been here for just a few days instead of a few months. Fortunately though, there is still much to do and many people to still meet and I plan to take full advantage of it!
